Pathway Healthcare Launches Mobile Application to Enhance Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).

Dallas, TX (November 2, 2017)

Pathway Healthcare, an outpatient clinic network that specializes in treating addiction, dependency and other substance use disorders, is pleased to announce they are first private clinic network to partner with Baltimore-based emocha, a mobile health company, to use asynchronous video Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) technology for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). This partnership allows Pathway Healthcare’s patients who are prescribed buprenorphine, a type of medication assisted treatment (MAT) to use a mobile application on their smart phone which contains video-based technology that encourages medication adherence and strong patient-provider relationships.

This emocha mobile application includes video-capture technology that allows the patient to record buprenorphine intake, set medication reminders, view a visual report of recovery progress, list side effects, and gives access to local resources. Using a secure web portal, Pathway Healthcare’s committed and caring team of specialists can evaluate data collected by emocha’s video DOT application and assist patients through the application to provide additional support or intervene quickly in the case of medication non-adherence or patient indication of symptoms that may lead to relapse before their next scheduled in-office visit.

“emocha’s platform will enhance patients’ treatment experiences and improve our ability to help them find the best path to recovery,” said Pathway Healthcare CEO Scott Olson. “Patients’ daily interaction with the app gives them a direct connection to their personal Patient Care Coordinator and gives their doctor important information to tailor care plans.”

Pathway Healthcare exists to help people suffering from substance use disorders by increasing their access to care, providing treatment consistent with other chronic diseases, removing the stigma and shame associated with addiction and dependency, and creating a culture where their patients to feel supported beyond their month to month office visits. emocha’s mobile application gives patients a daily touch point with their personal care coordinator who can respond in real time. “emocha’s video DOT technology can improve access to medication assisted therapy and helps patients and providers engage at critical moments during to treatment, which should lead to higher quality care and fewer overdoes, “said Sebastian Seiguer, CEO at emocha.
